This shouldn’t be a big deal, but maybe it is?
For somebody like me who wears an insulin pump and who used to be so ashamed of my disease due to stigma that I used to never tell anyone and literally hid my pump from everyone for over two years, it’s a very, very big deal.
I forget sometimes that my social circles of disability and chronic illness justice advocates, including many who wear their pumps with pride, are not the norm. As long as wearing a pump or having diabetes is stigmatized by anyone, this type of thing will continue to be a big deal! And probably educational for a lot of non-diabetics.
I’m not racist or anything, but I really don’t feel comfortable with the demographics that are showing up in the media nowadays. Especially in comic books. I get that people want representation or whatever, but really? Just because a character is a different race than…
